The Friends of Black Rock House invite you to visit Black Rock House in Melbourne’s Bayside suburb of the same name. You may also like to become a member to support this heritage-listed treasure, built by Victoria’s first Auditor-General Charles Ebden from 1856-58. It is well worth the visit to this intriguing historic Victorian era home to see the castle-style fortress wall, sand and paint finish, French reproduction wallpapers (from the originals), shady Moreton Bay Fig garden, and antique furniture and costumes presented to reflect the story of the House.   Black Rock House

News and Events

New  Sunday Guided Tours Times: First Sunday of the Month, 12 noon - 3pm

Following extensive research and restoration work, additional wallpaper has been added to Black Rock House which will reopen for Monthly Free Sunday Guided Tours on 6th September.  Each month a new historical display will be on show at Black Rock House too.  

Costumed guides share the intriguing history of the house built as a holiday residence by Victoria's first Auditor-General, Charles Ebden.  Donations accepted.

 

"Granny's Knickers" Display - Sunday, 6th September, 12 noon - 3pm

Come see our first display which is a display of antique underwear from the Victorian era. Collected by the Friends of Black Rock House.

The Friends of Black Rock House are thowing a party full of news, music and some champagne sipping to thank our many member volunteers. If you are interested in local history or historic homes and would like to become a volunteer in 2016, please contact us.

 

Friends of Black Rock House Christmas Carols - Wednesday, 2 December - 7-8.30pm

The annual Christmas Carols at Black Rock House will be held on the evening of Wednesday, 2 December.  As in the many prior years, this is a wonderful twilight community occasion where local choirs and performers weave their magic in Black Rock, heralding in the Christmas cheer with much talent and enthusiasm!  Bright your chairs, picnic and blankets if it's cool.  The event is moved to an indoor location closeby in the case of wet weather, please just check this site or our Facebook page.

Black Rock House Souvenirs - Available on Tour Days

Help support the Friends of Black Rock House by purchasing Black Rock House tea towels, tote bags, mugs and postcards. Funds raised will go towards presenting Black Rock House as a place of historical significance for all to enjoy. These are available during tour hours.
